The Ultimate Guide to RTX on Call of Duty Warzone: Balancing Visuals and Performance

The Ultimate Guide to RTX on Call of Duty Warzone: Balancing Visuals and Performance

So, you got a brand new, spanking RTX card and booted up Warzone for the first time and cranked everything to the max, thinking you’re gonna own some kids in glorious visuals and buttery framerate. Still, the framerate looks like
something out of the PlayStation 2 era, and you’re left wondering what you did wrong. You try some of the graphics presets in the settings, but now either your game looks like Roblox or runs like hot garbage. This guide is the secret sauce that will balance everything so well that your game will
look and feel as smooth as butter.

What is Ray-tracing and Why Does It Matter?

Ray-tracing gives features like realistic shadows, reflections, and volumetric lighting that can elevate immersion so much, but they can also tank your frame rate if not paired with AI upscaling tools and smart graphics settings.

So, you ask what’s even the point of turning RTX on if it makes your game run worse, I just wanna clap kids in the best framerate possible, well to answer that, this depends entirely on your preference but you’re missing out if you don’t optimize it balancing visuals and framerate, you’re possibly missing out on enjoying the game as it was intended and not turning RTX on makes you lose visual clarity especially for those longer-range gunfights.

Warzone runs on the IW engine developed from IW 8.0, which supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing and later added DLSS support around 2021. That makes it increasingly relevant for the latest PC hardware to flex its high-end capabilities while managing performance wisely.

How DLSS Improves Warzone Performance:

DLSS is a game changer for any game; it’s a booster that uses AI-upscaling to improve the visual clarity of a game to the desired resolution by first rendering it at a lower resolution. So, it might render it at 720p and upscale to 1080p without losing quality, and making the game look good and feel smooth as well.

  • DLSS Quality offers minimal blur and sharp upscaling.
  • Balanced/Performance modes trade some clarity for even larger FPS gains.
  • DLAA provides AI anti-aliasing at native resolution without the upscaling, resulting in cleaner visuals but higher GPU load.

For users with RTX 40-series or 50-series cards, DLSS 4 and multi-frame generation boost frame rates further, though many competitive players avoided it due to minor added latency, with the new Nvidia Reflex 2, the Ultra-Low Latency Mode, that problem basically doesn’t matter anymore.

Optimal In-Game Settings for High FPS on RTX:

So, Warzone has a ton of settings that we can tweak, but I’ll keep it very simple and highlight the ones that impact your performance and visuals the most!

  • Resolution: Apply DLSS settings first, Quality at 1440p, Balanced for mid-range, or Performance/Ultra Performance at 4K.
  • Low Latency Mode: Should be set to On + Boost.
  • V-Sync & Framerate: Set V-sync to Off and Framerate to Unlimited.
  • Antialiasing: This option determines how smooth the edges will look; keep this at FXAA/MSAA; at 8x is fine, no need to go to 16x unless you are playing at a larger display.
  • Ambient Occlusion, Reflection, Depth of Field, Motion Blur, Film Grain: Disable Depth of Field, Motion Blur (this option should be off by default honestly), but for Ambient Occlusion keep this at High or Ultra, this option affects how the lights and shadows looks bouncing off in corners and objects, all the Reflections settings should be at High for beefy cards but Medium for mid-range to low-end cards
  • Texture Resolution: Use Medium or High, depending on your VRAM (but avoid Ultra for lower-end cards).
  • Particle Resolution and Shader Quality: Keep this at Low and Shader Quality at High or Medium if you have a lower-end card.
  • Shadows/Lighting: Keep these at High or Ultra, use Medium or High as these options will tank your VRAM on lower-end cards. And these options are the ones affecting the performance and visuals the most.
  • Tessellation: Keep this Off.
  • Disable velocity-based blur and reduce spawn effects, corpse culling, and shadow cascades for smoother stutters.

In the NVIDIA control panel:

  • Disable Image Sharpening to avoid flickering in Warzone.
  • Leave Anti-aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering on Application-controlled.
  • Disable Ultra Low Latency Mode (Warzone is DX12).
  • Keep framerate uncapped for better latency, but use custom caps to prevent thermal spikes.
  • You can also turn on the new Transformer Model by going over it and selecting the “K” preset (this will hit your FPS by 5-7% but will provide better visual clarity if you are using DLSS).
  • Set Power Management to Maximum Performance.

Performance Tweaks Beyond the Graphics Setting

Looking for deeper performance gains? Try these options:

  • Turn on XMP: You’ll need to go into your BIOS to enable this, but it will make your RAM run at max advertised speed because it’s capped out of the box.
  • Graphics Options: Go to Windows settings>Display>Graphics Options> Browse to find Warzone and set it to “High Performance”.
  • Priority Settings: Set Warzone to High priority using the Task Manager (note: you’ll need to do this every time to turn on the game).

Choosing the Right DLSS Mode for Your GPU

Here’s what to aim for depending on your hardware:

RTX 20/30 series: Set DLSS to Quality or Balanced. Avoid Ultra Performance unless you need absurd FPS. Quality Settings should be High/Ultra for higher-end cards and Low/Medium for lower-end ones.

RTX 40/50 series: DLSS 3 or 4 with multi-frame generation offers smooth 4K performance, so turn it on for sure, most settings should be High/Ultra for higher-end cards and Med/High or lower-end ones.

Your Monitor Matters!

If you turned every setting to low because some YouTuber told you that you need a low setting for the best performance, and your monitor’s refresh rate is capped at 60Hz while you’re getting like 200+ FPS, yeah buddy, you’re missing out on some eye-candy for nothing. Your Monitor’s resolution and refresh rate play an important part in optimizing settings. The rule of thumb is that your FPS should always be above 60 FPS; this means adjust your settings to achieve that number. More chunky cards push out more FPS. But to keep this very simple, stay on whatever resolution your monitor is at, whether it be 1080p,1440p, or 4K. Check your monitor and see what the maximum refresh rate it supports and try to reach that number using your in-game settings, or if you’re chasing after visuals, try to reach at least 60 FPS if everything is at High/Ultra.

Visual vs Performance: Playstyle Considerations

Are you a pro-tier player chasing ultra-clarity? Go DLAA + Quality textures + low shadows. Have a competitive rig and want minimal input lag? Stick to DLSS Balanced with low post-processing.

Chill or cinematic sessions? Try Ray Tracing On + DLSS Quality, Crank everything up (in moderation, of course) if you want to make the game look gorgeous.

Competitive mode Balancing Visuals + Smoothness? Stay lean: DLSS on at Quality, Ray-tracing on, High to Medium Quality Settings for that sweet spot!

Final Words: Is RTX Worth it?

RTX, in my opinion, is a game changer for sure. RTX features give visual polish and immersion when used judiciously. So, to answer the question, it is worth it. I mean, who doesn’t like to make their game look pretty? And by balancing some settings, you can enjoy the game visually and competitively, so it’s a win-win situation for you.

Something to keep in mind is that “configure smart, tweak carefully”, and let your rig deliver buttery performance without sacrificing the aesthetics. Balance is everything.
