Checked September 23, 2026: Use viewmodel_fov 68 if you want the usual wide CS2 weapon view. For a clean competitive baseline, paste viewmodel_fov 68; viewmodel_offset_x 2.5; viewmodel_offset_y 0; viewmodel_offset_z -1.5; into the developer console.
That command moves the gun and hands. It does not widen the camera view you use to spot players. The normal competitive commands only change the viewmodel; Valve lists fov_cs_debug as a cheat command, so it is not a matchmaking FOV option.
If you are rebuilding a full config, use this with the CS2 crosshair guide, CS2 launch options, and current CS2 pro settings.
Best CS2 viewmodel command
viewmodel_fov 68; viewmodel_offset_x 2.5; viewmodel_offset_y 0; viewmodel_offset_z -1.5;- FOV 68 makes the weapon look smaller and farther from the center.
- X 2.5 moves it to the right.
- Y 0 keeps the forward/back offset neutral.
- Z -1.5 lowers it.
Nothing here changes sensitivity, recoil, accuracy, hitboxes, or the competitive camera FOV.
Viewmodel FOV vs camera FOV
| Setting | What it changes | Works in matchmaking? |
|---|---|---|
viewmodel_fov | The size and apparent distance of your gun and hands | Yes |
viewmodel_offset_x/y/z | The weapon’s horizontal, depth, and vertical position | Yes |
fov_cs_debug | The camera field of view used for testing | No, Valve flags it as a cheat command |
Can you change the real FOV in CS2?
Not in normal competitive play. Search results often use “CS2 FOV” to mean the weapon view, but viewmodel_fov never gives you a wider playable camera angle. It only changes how much space the weapon takes up.
Valve’s current command list separates the two. viewmodel_fov is an archived client setting with a default value of 60. fov_cs_debug changes the view itself, but Valve marks it as cheat-protected. You can use cheat commands on a suitable private server with cheats enabled, not as an official-match advantage.
Current pro CS2 viewmodel examples
donk and ZywOo still use the same 68 / 2.5 / 0 / -1.5 offsets. Their preset numbers differ, but the visible custom values match.
These records were checked September 23 against the current donk config and ZywOo config. Copy the shape if you like the open screen, but do not expect a viewmodel to change your aim.
What each CS2 viewmodel command does
| Command | Normal range or values | Use |
|---|---|---|
viewmodel_fov | 54 to 68 | Higher values make the weapon appear smaller and farther away. |
viewmodel_offset_x | -2.5 to 2.5 | Moves the model left or right. |
viewmodel_offset_y | -2 to 2 | Moves the model closer or farther away. |
viewmodel_offset_z | -2 to 2 | Moves the model down or up. |
viewmodel_presetpos | 1, 2, or 3 | Loads Desktop, Couch, or Classic preset positions. |
How to change CS2 FOV and viewmodel
- Open CS2 and go to Settings > Game.
- Set Enable Developer Console (~) to Yes.
- Press the tilde key, usually below Esc.
- Paste the command block from the top of this guide and press Enter.
- Join a practice map and adjust one value at a time if the gun feels too low, centered, or close.

How to reset the CS2 viewmodel
Enter viewmodel_presetpos 1 to load Valve’s Desktop preset. Valve lists preset 1 as Desktop, 2 as Couch, and 3 as Classic. If an autoexec keeps changing the viewmodel every time CS2 starts, remove the old viewmodel lines from that file before testing the reset again.
Fixes when viewmodel commands do not work
- The console will not open: enable it in Settings > Game, then check the console key in Keyboard/Mouse settings.
- A value snaps back: stay inside the command’s allowed range and check your autoexec for another copy of the command.
- The preset changes your offsets: presets replace the custom position. Paste your custom X, Y, and Z values after choosing a preset.
- You expected to see more of the map:
viewmodel_fovchanges the weapon, not the camera view.
CS2 FOV and viewmodel FAQ
What is the best CS2 FOV?
For the weapon model, start with viewmodel_fov 68. It is the maximum normal viewmodel value and leaves more of the screen clear. The competitive camera FOV is separate and cannot be widened with this command.
What is the default CS2 viewmodel FOV?
Valve lists 60 as the default for viewmodel_fov. Use viewmodel_presetpos 1 if you want to return to the Desktop preset.
Does CS2 viewmodel FOV change sensitivity?
No. It only changes how the weapon and hands appear. Your mouse sensitivity, zoom sensitivity, recoil, and hitboxes stay the same.
Is viewmodel_fov 68 allowed in matchmaking?
Yes. viewmodel_fov and the viewmodel offsets work in normal matches. Do not confuse them with fov_cs_debug, which Valve marks as a cheat command.
Why does my CS2 viewmodel keep resetting?
An autoexec or preset command may be loading after your custom offsets. Search the config for duplicate viewmodel_ lines, remove the stale copy, then paste your chosen values again.
