How to play Fortnite cross-platform with friends

Fortnite makes it simple to invite friends on different platforms, like Xbox, PlayStation, PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile. Follow the steps below to get started:

  1. First, you must make and sign in to an Epic Games account to join or invite friends on different platforms. Head to epicgames.com and click sign-in in the top right corner to get started.
  2. Next, start up Fortnite and log into your Epic Games account. Linking your Epic Games account will also enable cross-progression between any platform you play on.
  3. Now, head to the Fortnite lobby, find the search bar under “Add Friends,” and search for the Epic display name of the friend you want to invite. Once the friend accepts your request, their name will display in your list of available friends.
  4. Finally, click the “+” button next to your character in the lobby and choose the friends you want to invite.

Troubleshooting common Fortnite cross-platform issues

Below are common issues that may be preventing you from playing Fortnite cross-platform with friends:

Crossplay is disabled in the Fortnite settings

Fortnite players on Xbox or Playstation may have their crossplay disabled by default in their game settings. Head to Settings, go to the Account and Privacy tab, then the Gameplay Privacy section, and find Allow Cross-Platform Play. Click “Yes” to enable crossplay.

Fortnite is not up to date

Fortnite must be updated to the most current version to play with friends on different platforms. Go to your platform’s game launcher and check if Fortnite has an available update. Sometimes, restarting the game will cause Fortnite to update automatically.

Crossplay is disabled in the Xbox console settings

If you’re on Xbox, head to Profile & System > Settings > Account. Then choose Privacy & online safety > Xbox privacy > View details and customize > Communications & multiplayer. Go to the “You can join cross-network play” option and ensure it says “Allow.”

    Yes, PC players are matched automatically with console players in Fortnite. It’s not currently possible to disable crossplay in the PC Fortnite settings.

  • Can you play Fortnite without crossplay?
