Battlefield 6 Drops Levolution for Tactical Destruction in Latest Installment

Battlefield Levolution System Scrapped?

“Levolution” gives way to “Tactical Destruction” it seems, as Battlefield 6 developers decide to scrap the Levolution destruction system.

In a previous interview of Battlefield 6 technical director Christian Buhl from ComicBook that we covered, we went into how RTX will not be supported by the game on release and in future updates.

Another recent interview of Battlefield 6 producer Jeremy Chubb also went into how the trademark Levolution destruction system will not be in the newest installment of Battlefield.

What exactly is the Battlefield Levolution Destruction System?

The destruction system, first introduced during Battlefield 4 back in 2013, was beloved for enabling unprecedented amounts of destruction which completely leveled entire maps from causing floods to demolishing skyscrapers. It created highly dynamic and unpredictable environments, adding to the chaotic fun game that is Battlefield 4.

Now, you might think this is the exact same experience that Battlefield 6 will be giving, but, you’d be wrong.

Instead, the decision was made to focus on more “dynamic” and “tactical” destruction, rather than scripted destruction.

Chubb commented that this time, a focus was put on a “dynamic sandbox of destruction”. Environments that changed (owing to the mayhem) “demanded a tactical response or presented cool strategic opportunities”, he continues by stating that players need to explore the possibilities of destruction by being creative, unlike the old blow-everything-up style of destruction Battlefield 4 was known for. He further adds, “[…] we wanted it to be more grounded in feel, I guess more unpredictable and demanding in strategy or tactics. I think that was a very deliberate choice, but we love that stuff as well.

Rumors circulated that one of the key factors from not using Levolution would be the consequences it had regarding performance, so deliberately not using it would drastically improve the game’s FPS especially on consoles.
