How To Install “HD Game Textures & Models” In Cold War

Cold War HD Textures & Models Cover

If you’re anything like us, you’ve probably already jumped in and explored the settings for the newly released Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Some of you may have noticed an option in the graphics settings (under Details & Textures) to install HD Game Textures & Models, with a big download button that looks like this:

Cold War HD Textures and Models

As per the tool-tip information, if you enable this setting it will download additional high-definition textures and models in order to further improve Cold Wars visuals.

After clicking the button, however, it simply exits the game and takes you to the launcher, with no further instructions. Since this had us stumped for a while, I’m sure that some of you reading will also be in the same position, so allow us to talk you through the process. Before getting started, please note that this download will require approximately 45GB of additional free drive space.

1 In the launcher, click on Options then Game Settings.

5 Once completed, load Cold War and navigate to the graphics settings again. You should now see a green “Installed” button, indicating it’s all worked. For the HD textures to load, remember to set Texture Quality to “Ultra” and Model Quality to “High”.

That’s it, you’re all set. Feel free to try it out, and if you change your mind and want to free up the 45GB, simply follow the steps above again, and uncheck High-Resolution Assets at step 4.

It’s worth mentioning that this setting will cause a fair amount more strain on your GPU, which will likely lower frame-rates in game. This feature is therefore aimed at gamers who prioritize immersive graphics over competitive game response. As a result, it’s unlikely that pro-players will be enabling the option.
